Hype Won’t Save You, G.M.

Hot on the heels of G.M.’s cynical, purely marketing-centric and disingenuous cancellation of the Hummer H2 — just like any other car offered by G.M., the Hummer is based on a shared platform i.e. a Tahoe is a Yukon is an H2 and I don’t see them canceling production of either of the former — comes the, hopefully, less disingenuous impending introduction of a new in-house designed hybrid called the Volt, set to roll out onto the pavement in 2010.

The Insight Strikes Back

Next year, Honda plans on adding a fair bit of competition to the “dedicated hybrid” space when it re-introduces the Insight. Way back in 1999, back when gas was at $1.39/gal., Honda was the first to market in offering for sale a gas-electric hybrid. In 2006 they killed it. Now, the time is right to raise the dead and Toyota is squarely in their sights.
