The Muppets are coming back. There’s even a Christmas special in the works. Disney — owners to the rights to The Muppets since 2004 — are ready to make a full court press in what they are calling a “global relaunch” of The Muppets.

As a proud former member of The Muppet Show Fan Club, I must say I am excited at the prospect of my beloved childhood buddies getting their due with the children — and adults — of today but with marketing blather like “We think there is a Muppet gene in everybody” being spat out of Disney’s “Muppets’ war room”, well, let’s just say that I am more hopeful than optimistic that we will witness the full resurgence of Muppet mania.
